Te Task Force has identifed 10 teachable attributes that employers hiring law school graduates seek: 1. Written communication 2. Oral communication/ presentation 3. Problem solving 4. Work ethic/habits/attitude/ initiative 5. Organization 6. Flexibility/adaptability 7. Teamwork 8. Self-awareness 9. Professional demeanor 10. Critical thinking Te Task Force's next steps will be to: • Select the top three to fve attributes. • Articulate rubrics that will enable law schools to teach and law frms to evaluate and track these attributes. • Recruit law school(s) and law frm(s) for a pilot program. • Draft the JDPlus Compact. We'll report on our progress at the VBA's Annual Meeting in Williamsburg. I've come to view these eforts as akin to pro bono work: We owe it to our profession to equip our newly minted lawyers with the tools to make them valuable contributors to the work of our profession. ■ Cliona Mary Robb, LEED® AP, leads the Sustainability: Energy and Green Development practice group at Christian & Barton, LLP, in Richmond.
