SPRING 2017 • 7 VBA. With the growth of technology and the spread of information, attorneys are seeking out those organizations that focus on their specialty. In this day and age, however, the VBA and the YLD remain just as important as they have always been, especially for young lawyers. ird and finally, we must take a hard look at our budget and figure out how to increase our revenue and cut our expenses. e YLD has begun implementing small revenue-generating changes that have allowed members to still participate in our activities at little to no cost. We have accomplished this by charging modest fees to participate in certain events, and we now require all our projects to seek a sponsorship before turning to the YLD coffers. ese changes will allow our organization to con- tinue to provide great services to the bar and to the community, while managing the constraints within which we operate. ere should be no doubt — the YLD has a lot of work ahead of it this year, much of which might be considered minutiae. However, there should also be no doubt that the foundation we are laying now is going to make the YLD HUGER than ever! ■ Jeremy S. Williams is a partner at Kutak Rock LLP in Richmond.
