THE DOCKET programs for all When the humidity of summer fades, the VBA turns up the heat on CLE programming, social events and professional development opportunities. The busy fall season began with the YLD Pro Bono Hotline training in Fairfax. A Real Estate Section social in Richmond encouraged new member sign-ups, and CLEs occurred from Richmond to Abingdon. 42nd Annual Conference on Labor Relations and Employment Law Nearly 175 people registered for this three-day event that ofered 10 MCLE Credit hours (2 Ethics). Overnight stays were so popular they spilled out beyond the meeting site at the Omni Charlottesville. Speakers included EEOC Commissioner Victoria Lipnic and U.S. Magistrates David Novak and Waugh Crigler, and program topics ranged from "Te Year of the Whistleblower – Have Tings Changed?" to "Te Ethics of Social Media for Lawyers – Darned If You Do, Darned If You Don't?" "Ethics and Practice in the Courtroom: Advice from the Supreme Court, Federal Court and Ethics Master" Tis afernoon session in Abingdon attracted nearly 150 people to a 2 MCLE Credit hour (1 Ethics) program followed by a cocktail reception. Speakers included Chief Justice Cynthia D. Kinser and Justice Elizabeth A. McClanahan. Plus, we welcomed new members who applied to join the VBA at the event. Referral networking and getting to know colleagues across the state are a bene½t of conference attendance, such as the Corporate Counsel Fall Forum. Participants surveyed about the daylong event that attracted 86 registrants said they particularly enjoyed the ethics session led by Tom Spahn and the program opener, "Te Foreign Corrupt Policies Act in 2012 and Responding to Government Investigations."
